Fishing Lure Collectibles: An Encyclopedia of the Early Years (Hardcover) by Dudley Murphy and Rick Edmisten
Fishing Lure Collectibles: An Encyclopedia of the Modern Era (Hardcover) Dudley Murphy and Deanie Murphy
The authors bring over 75 years of collecting experience to this book. Dudley Murphy is one of the three founders of the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club and editor of its magazine, and Rick Edmisten is also a noted lure collector. This highly rated work of vintage fishing lure collecting information is actually comprised of 2 books. There is a pre-1940 book and a post-1940 book.
Both books are laid out in an organized and orderly fashion allowing the reader to quickly find the information most relevant to their needs. The individual chapters are on major companies with the lures ordered for the most part in chronological fashion within this grouping. Many miscellaneous lures are also covered. These books are heavy on photographs to convey information, and the authors have minimized lengthy text narratives on purpose.
Both books are good resources and depending on what age of vintage fishing lure you want to focus on, you could buy only the pre or post 1940 edition. If you want to learn about the history of vintage lures in both periods, then consider adding both to your library. Either book will be valuable for lure visual identification training and education.
