Collect Vintage Fishing Lures – 5 Places to Find Lures

A very popular new pastime that is gaining new practitioners with each passing day is collecting vintage fishing lures. This hobby provides opportunities for meeting new people, sharing in a love of fishing and fishing lures, and possibly the opportunity to profit if the right lures are selected.

One question that newcomers to the hobby inevitably ask is “Where can I find vintage fishing lures?” This is a good question, as it can be difficult to know where to start looking for lures when first entering the hobby, but the 5 tips below will help point you in the right direction.

#1 -Go to tackle shows

By going to fishing tackle shows you will meet dealers and other collectors providing you the opportunity to network and build a group of people that you can buy, sell, or trade with. There are national and state level organizations that sponsor shows as well as numerous opportunities for local shows.

#2 – Garage and estate sales

It has been said before that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. Tackle boxes full of vintage fishing lures have been found in garage and estate sales that are being sold by someone who doesn’t realize the value of that old tackle box in the corner of the garage. With some footwork, those items could be yours.

#3 -Family members

This one is similar in theory to the garage and estate sales item above, but can be used whether the family member plans on having a garage sale or not. If you tell them about your new hobby and show that you are interested, it is likely that they will respond favorably to your request for them to see if the have anything in the attic or garage they wouldn’t mind parting with to give to you.

#4 – eBay

eBay has auction listings for vintage fishing lures. They have quite an extensive selection at most times and have items ranging from the inexpensive to the very expensive. Using eBay auctions can be a very powerful way to build a collection.

#5 – Put a list on your own website

This one has a small technical hurdle, but with the proliferation of free hosting and blogs available on the internet, having a small website is a reality for almost anyone with a computer and internet access. After creating a blog or website, make a list of items you are interested in purchasing (or have for sell) and list them in local or internet free classifieds with a link to your website. This can put you in touch with collectors you would never have been able to access who may be hundred or thousand of miles away from your physical location.

Now you have 5 ways to start finding lures for your collection. Get out there and get started!
